Questions private sector sellers ask

Putting an item up as a surveyor, a loss assessor, or an owner selling his own.

REGISTERING

What does it cost?

Nothing. Registering, listing, extending a listing and seeing the offers are all free in this sector.

How do I register?

On the private sector form. It asks at the top whether you are registering as a buyer or as a surveyor or loss assessor. Choose the second if you will be listing items for your clients.

An owner selling his own item chooses buyer; the same account lists items.

How does a surveyor get verified?

Email a copy or photograph of your valid IRDAI Surveyor and Loss Assessor licence to register@isalvageauction.com. Once we have checked it your account is marked as a verified uploader, and your standing is shown on every item you list, so buyers can see who is behind it.

LISTING AN ITEM

What do I set?

The description, up to ten pictures, where the item lies, the expected price, and the closing date and time. You may attach your own terms as a document, which buyers are shown before they offer.

Good pictures and a chassis, engine and registration number where they apply are what draw serious buyers; a listing without them is treated with caution, and we say so on the page.

May I list without opening it to bidding?

Yes. An item listed for information only shows your phone number and email address openly, and buyers approach you direct. One opened to bidding keeps your details back until a buyer signs in.

What may I list?

Only what you may lawfully sell, or what your client has authorised you to offer. Nothing that breaks any law, here or abroad.

THE OFFERS

Who can bid on my item?

Any registered buyer, verified or not. You see both kinds, listed separately, so you can tell them apart at a glance.

What does "verified" mean about a buyer?

That he keeps a Genuineness Certified Account with us, at present Rs 20,000 or more, and has agreed a guarantee amount. If he makes an offer you accept and then does not honour it, you may complain and that guarantee amount is taken out of his deposit.

It is the nearest thing to a security against a buyer wasting your time.

A buyer accepted by me has not honoured his offer. What do I do?

Write to us with the sale id, his name, and what happened. We check it with him, and if the complaint holds, the guarantee amount is taken out of his account. Our decision on such a dispute is final for both of you.

Am I bound to accept the highest offer?

No. The decision is entirely yours, you may accept any offer or none, and you may deal with a buyer direct on your own terms. The offers here are a record of interest, not a contract.

Can I see the result after my listing closes?

Yes, in full: every offer with the amount, and how to reach each buyer. Sign in on the closed listing with the account that put it up.
